BIG TIMBER- Sweet Grass County Sheriff's Office was notified a little before 1:00 p.m. on Monday by St. Vincent's Heathcare that they had received a call that a 14-year-old boy was having a severe appendicitis attack at Mirror Lake, which is nearly 46 miles south of Big Timber.

St. Vincent's HelpFlight was not able to complete the flight due to weather conditions and altitude.

Sweet Grass County Search & Rescue were then notified and a crew of six prepared for a ground rescue.

At the same time a helicopter flight mission was requested from Malmstrom Air Force Base near Great Falls.

The helicopter was able to land and retrieve the boy.

Then he was transported to the Sweet Grass County Airport, and a Sweet Grass County Ambulance met the helicopter crew to transfer the teen to Pioneer Medical Center for evaluation.

He was later transported to Billings for emergency surgery.
