GLASGOW - A competitive shooter from Glasgow is right on target.
Julie Golob took the Women's Single Stack division title at the 2010 U.S. Practical Shooting Association Area 6 Regional Handgun Championship. The competition was held April 16-18 in Georgia.
Golob is a member of Team Smith and Wesson. Area 6 is one of the eight USPSA shooting regions in the country and is made up of Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee.
Golob is the team captain. She'll take part in the USPSA Single Stack Nationals this coming weekend.
The sport of Practical Shooting was formally established in 1976 but traces its roots back to the 1950's and the quick draw "leather slap" competitions that grew out of America's love affair with the TV westerns of that era. Today the sport represents the upper echelon of the shooting sports with many of its top shooters actively training law enforcement and military units on shooting techniques and equipment developed in competition.
